Ask HN: Anyone Else Getting YT Ads from Israeli Government Advertising Agency
When I click the ad (which is a video showing fast food restaurants servings tons of meal in Gaza, even today), it links to the following:
https://govextra.gov.il/mda/ipc/gaza
There was also an ad showing a starving child in Gaza and claiming it was false, and that the child had a genetic disease (the starving body image was apparently being used as propaganda is the implication). The YouTube link on the ad is from the Israeli ad agency.
I’m mostly lost for words. Anyone else seeing this? This shit is disgusting.
RE "... The YouTube link on the ad is from the Israeli ad agency...."
(MAYBE) The important question is , Is the information being shown CORRECT?
However I just look up definition of propaganda, and it includes phrases like "...information to present a particular viewpoint.." "...it can be correct information.." I always assume it was incorrect information. So yes the above youtube link would fit the definition of propaganda. However we do not know if it is TRUE or NOT
Even looking for other entities with same information is not good enough. In addition the world s media seems to copy information from each other.
That means most of the previous articles on this Gaza/Hamas/Israel situation would be propaganda. I've always noted the LACK of articles criticising Hamas or even mentioning Hamas role in the situation , recently and over the last 18 months too.
I realize both sides would be releasing propaganda.
Gaza journalists are said (propaganda?) to be controlled by Hamas otherwise they get threats of violence (bashings) or death from Hamas.
This all fits in with the statement/saying ....the first causality of war is truth.
> I've always noted the LACK of articles criticising Hamas
Israel put Hamas in Gaza. They deliberately chose this humanitarian crisis as opposed to giving the PLO political legitimacy: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Israeli_support_for_Hamas

I think this is the video you may have seen.
That’s exactly it. Woah, why am I being targeted like this with foreign propaganda? So, it’s business as usual in Gaza is the implication?
The most likely is that your browsing history (via retargeting pixels on the websites), Google searches or YouTube history show interest into Palestine or Israel.
From there you become part of the audience groups, that are chosen by advertisers targeting these interests.
This is kind of intense if they do this while the history is not settled or agreed upon by sensible people yet, no?
Basically we’re talking WW2 level propaganda but with targeted ads.
Full disclosure:
I watch a lot of Democracy Now:
https://youtu.be/G-BLhMixwKU
I think this is the best ad I ever saw, pretty sure he breaks down somewhere in there. He speaks well about what he wanted his daughter to learn.
clear your browsing history cookies, switch to Brave or Tor browser. It will stop.
Most of Si Valley is infiltrated
YouTube ads are targeted based on your browsing history, demographics, and location. You can check what Google thinks about you in your ad settings (https://adssettings.google.com) and disable personalized ads or report inappropriate ones.
Certain zionista activities are clear proof that evil is a real thing. I am not anti-Jewish but their activities are clearly and self-conciously genocidal which is even worse. Stomach churning even if you are a billion miles away
Do better research. And HN is definitely not the place for this.
Is this tech related? Are you mother Theresa?
Where do I start? Link me to educate myself. If they let some journalists in, at least I could ask these simple people what their favorite fast food joint is in Gaza 2025.
This has been edited. With all due respect, I don't want to educate anyone.
The Middle East is a complex place.
> so it's actually impossible for you to filter it and find the facts
Don't gatekeep like this. It's not your place to do it, there are still facts and worthwhile discussions to be had around them.
Nobody is gatekeeping, just sharing my perspective. I'm up for respected discussion, and any fact and worthwhile discussion is very much welcome.
May you burn quietly in hell. Don’t speak to me dude. That’s about as polite as I can be, forgive me God.
No offense taken. This is your opinion, I have mine. We certainly don't have to agree on it.
We can't even agree here whether LLMs are useful for programming, so I doubt we are going to resolve a 100+ years conflict.
Exactly haha
Why would the shameless take offense? Anyway, that’s how the ads tried to convince me. I thought I’d let y’all know.
