Show HN: SitDeck – Customizable live dashboard of news, markets, threats

Why do I need to create an account to deploy anything? I just wanted to look around and see what it looks like then toss it away if it's not useful.

Adding, I wanted to see the humanitarian data sources and widgets.

Because there are custom decks, alerts, and all kinds of other things that get saved to an account. You setup your own decks and your own chart layers. They get saved to your account so you always get the same layout when you come back.

You can create a demo page for everyone to be able to experience the product without signing-up. You can diable chat messaging in this demo and make it read-only if needed.

Having said that, I genuinely liked the appeal of the product.

Thank you for explaining the reasoning behind the account creation.

Cool, congrats on shipping. Looks similar to worldmonitor [0][1]. What's the main use-case for this kind of thing? What' the "Watch Floor" you mention?

IMHo the main use case is keeping up with a crazy world in data not words written by other people. I have trust issues with the media and with social "new media" and just crave data so I can form my own views as best I can and decide what to research into deeper. It's extremely chaotic and I expect it to get even more chaotic. I can see other uses, such as in prediction markets, investing, journalism as well. But mine is more of the pure play "monitor the situation" type.

Does it use https://www.gdeltproject.org/ ?

2 days agostared

Yes, I believe that is one of the data sources. If you click on Data Feeds on the top right, all sources are listed and attributed in-app. It uses only open sources, except for a few paid APIs for things that are not open (like real time flights).

- how long did it take you to make this?

- how many of you created this together?

- what is the tech stack for stuff like this?

Actually this is cool. Might set it up and use it as a quick way to see conflict/political news
