Google Chrome adds session cookie theft protection for all users

RIP yt-dlp with cookies

why is that? you'd run yt-dlp from the same device you generated the cookies on (with a real browser). yt-dlp will have the bare cookie and also be able to refresh the cookie just like the browser.

It's so fucking evil, scary: a massive massive massive giant flaming 30 foot tall middle finger to the web as general purpose computing, as user agency. It's now Google and the site's agency and fuck the user, fuck what they want, fuck them having any say in how they access the web. All this device attestation shit and TPM shit is a massive massive threat to the free world, to the idea of personal computing, to user agency.

It's so disappointing that there are security people out there thinking they are doing good things, that they are keeping users safe from themselves. But this is directly handing over the one bastion of free computing, the one place users have been given some agency: it's turning that all over to making the web be hopelessly our of user control.
